First, I’d like to remind you that you can get our new course “Master the Grunfeld defense as Black” with a special 20% discount, which will save you about a huge $20 USD. The Grunfeld’s tendency to lead to a build up of increasingly greater tension, with Black firing a direct volley at White’s center, creates the preconditions for decisive chess.
Simply use the coupon “gru20” when making your purchase. If you don’t know how to use a discount coupon, please see here. This is a limited-period offer: it will be valid only till tomorrow (9 April). I’d also like to insist that this course is prepared with a super GM, Alex Ipatov, who is an expert on this defense and uses it regularly with great results against the world top players.
Let me remind you that you can study the course on ANY device (even on non-windows device). You can watch the tutorial video in the FAQ here.

Now I’d like to share with you the introduction video to the course. In this video, I’ll show you a quick overview of the Grunfeld defense and its main ideas and plans.
P.S. After the study of the course, please write your impressions in the comments below. 🙂 I’d be glad to read your feedback. Thanks in advance!

Dear GM Smirnov,
Nice to see another mainstream opening course and the intro is very good as always. I have one quick question about the lines discussed. White has one very interesting way to neutralize Black’s setup 1.d4 2.c4 3.f3 and I hope the course will tackle a way on how Black should handle this. In case not, I wish you could provide a good bonus lesson about this 😉
Thanks in advance,
You know, there is one way White can fully prevent any Grunfeld position. 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.d5. Well, I never said it was good, but White can stop d5!
thanks igor smirnov for the informantion and this wonderful lessons you are great teacher.
Thank you GM Igor Smirnov for this introduction to the Grunfeld defense. When I play against the grunfeld defense I choose 4.Bg5 instead of 4.cxd5. I think that the last one is very sharp for white and a little risky. All my oponent are surprised when I choose 4.Bg5. When you play different lines you create problems to your opponent and they start to think a lot in the opening stage. As black I never try Grunfeld Defense but it is time to learn about this opening and to play
training match.
