And YES, my new BOMB-course has been released – “The Grandmaster’s Positional Understanding”: LINK

Many people asked whether they could get into the lucky list of customers who will get great bonuses. I have to tell you, HOWEVER, that the 1st bonus (my personal support) has been snapped up during the 1st day! So unfortunately, it’s no longer available.

BUT don’t fret; the 2nd bonus is still up for grabs – 5 extra lessons with replies to my students’ questions. You still can get this bonus absolutely for free. However, the places are limited! If you want to be there – order the course “The Grandmaster’s Positional Understanding” NOW!

As I told you previously, for a limited time, this course is available at a LOWER price. After the 29th of October the price will become 15 dollars higher! That’s another nice bonus that only my regular students know of. 🙂

For a long time I didn’t write you about successes of students of our “Remote Chess Academy” 🙂 It doesn’t mean we don’t have good news. Quite the contrary, many great results were achieved during this time. It shows what an ordinary player can get with a RIGHT plan of study especially when he sticks to it.

My elo rating is about 2170 and I hope to become a FM level. when I can reach that goal then I will be one of the oldest new FM 😉 (I am 51 years old)
Your course is great. I feel that my chess becomes better and better.

Kind Regards,
Sir i happy to say that I got 3rd Prize in my school.

These are good examples for those who make an excuse out of their age… that they are too young or too old. I have students from 6 to 65 years old. They all progress and get good results! Everything is possible, set a goal to achieve and DO EVERYTHING you can to achieve that goal!

Many people ask me what results they can get after a study of the course. Since that can’t be measured mathematically, in order to answer this question, I let the results of my other students, who applied the courses already, do the ‘talking’.

I want to thank you for developing a such a strong chess course. I was USCF 1990 when I started with your course and gained 101 rating points in the past 10 games. My rating is now 2091.

In my last tournament, finished in front of 13 players rated higher than myself including 4 USCF masters!

So you are saying this is sheer luck? Well, here’s some MORE! What chess book can give you at least a half of such results? 🙂 (or at least a tenth? LOL)

Yesterday i beat an opponent who was 500 points higher than me in 14 moves because i was able to use the thinking method taught by you! Thank you Igor.

I don’t know if you update your success stories or not, but I wanted to say this:

After studying your course I entered a tournament where i was lowest rated player.

I was in 2 tournaments in the past year (I just started playing a year ago) but this one had the strongest competition by far with player rated 1700, 1400, and couple 2000+. I pretty much beat two players rated almost “1000” points higher than. That’s not a typo and this is real. Thanks!

Don’t you think it’s about time YOU join our ‘ELITE Club’ and shock your friends with you unbelievably good results and fast chess development? 🙂

  1. this course is really also so so so so great amazing , wish Paypal was faster 🙁 , Monday I did make a transfer online to my Paypal account , think I can buy it tomorrow 🙂 take 1 a 2 days always

    1. Hi sir. You say that you are weak?
I have some friends that he is below 1000 ELO! 🙂
If you are weak means that you must study the course litle harder… 🙂

  2. In this course I EXPLAIN a chess game: what are the main rules and even how they were created. Such a strong foundation will make your future progress simpler and faster. So, yes, this course will be useful for beginners as well.

  3. I do not know about this specific course but I did not get an improvement from another course of opening repertoire and it seems that I am on the same level near 2000 inspite of surprising my opponents in some games.

I admit that I did not do the practical tasks but I simply dislike the fact that part of the openings are unsound.

For example I analyzed the main line that smirnov gives in the french defence(smirnov say there
after white castle in move 9:”then Qe2 and white has slightly better position” and I analyzed with houdini and houdini gives black a small advantage and the evaluation is not changed to equality or a small advantage for white even after hours of analysis).

Note that I have no problem to take the risk of getting equal position with white in order to surprise my opponent but getting slightly inferior position seems to me too much.

I do not expect progress to be easy but I would like to see a list of questions that if you know to answer all of them you get a progress(and if I need to create the questions for myself then it is an additional work).

In the case of opening I would like to have list of lines that I need to remember in order to get a clear advantage on the clock or on the board in most games.

In general in chess I would like to see list of questions that if you know to answer all of them you get an improvement(it can include chess positions and not only the best move but what lines to analyze and how to think).

    1. Our brother Uri Blass, if you didn’t do practical tasks in ( THE GRANDMASTER’S OPENINGS LABORATORY ) Course. In that case you didn’t do anything realy in this particular course. So I advise you comeback to particular part and do all tasks ,after that you can criticize

  4. I can add that I also disagree with some of the opinions of GM smirnov.
He claims about playing style that players are bad at defending.

    I have a different experience.
In part of my games my opponent sacrificed for attack and I got material advantage and won the game. Of course not always I find the best defence but I am not an attacker and I do not feel better at attack relative to defence.

Of course not always I find the best moves to defend but the same is correct also for attacking moves.

In part of my last games I changed my style and sacrificed for initiative but the result is not good and even in case that the sacrifice was correct I did not know how to continue correctly and did a mistake later.

  5. It is very easy for everyne t create a chess rule, it is very easy to repeat a rule, it is very easy to find 1-2 games to support this rule and it is even posible to play 1-2 game to prouve this mystirious rule…

The difical thing is to find a SIMPLE rule, the basic of of all stratigic rules, to explane this with very simple words and prouve that this work in EVERY psition.

I have told it in the past and i will be realy hapy to say it again. When start study I. Smirnv’s courses i begine to enjoy chess! I enjoy playing, to analyse and commend chess games. 🙂

I understand why Dr. Tarrash says: “Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy.”

The new course is amazing and i am going now to perfrome the practical part! After the video lessons i feel that i can do them all easily!!! 🙂

The bottom line is this: Buy this course and start enjoy your game!!! Good luck fcks!

P.s. Is I.S. courses effectivly? Ok i would say that i have study the course “How to beat Gm” resently and i have play a blitz game with one Russian Gm (2600+).
I am not only winning him twice but in the secnd time i mate him in 19 moves!!!!!!!!!

I thing you can copy – pase the game in the chessbase programm and see it normaly! 😉

  6. Answer to “URIBlass”

Man I can tell you that I have laugh a lot with your comments!!!
I love to play with people like you because you don’t have any idea about chess!!! Defiantly you don’t understand this game and the most important is that you don’t try to understand it at all.

Here I have some simple questions.

    1) How many years you play in the same chess level?
    2) Let’s say you have a queen and your king and your opponent have his own king. What you will do? Defense? Run with the king?
    3) You say “someone sacrifices to you and you win after that.” I explain to you that you simply take the material and win after that. You didn’t defend.
    4) You say in the opening laboratory Smirnov don’t say about the last word of theory. And here is the question: What to do the opening theory if you don’t know what attack is and what is defense??? LOL Ok. I will tell you how to play in the opening with 3 words: “Develop your pieces!” Simply like this.

And finally I will tell you how I get progress. Mr. Smirnov says in one free lesson. “When your opponent make a move you must ask – what he is threatening.”
I didn’t do it before so I start training it. It took me about a month (!) of training. Every day I play with my computer a long chess game, about 2-3 hours, and finally I make this question part of my personality! This means I hear one excelled idea, and then I train with this! If you can’t do it , then you can’t improve.

  8. I hope, that this new course will help me nearly as good, as GM secrets.
3 monts ago, I’ve got GM secrets course, studied it for 2 monts and played in 2 rapid tournaments (15 minutes). I was extremly bad in blitz, rapid and tactics, but after studing this course, I managed to beat 4 IMs , draw with 1 GM, and 2 IMs. I’ve lost only 2 games with IMs on this 2 tournaments. I was extremly happy in 2nd tournament, beacause I won it (5.5 points / 7 games , 16 players). On this tournament 13 players had bigger rating than mine (only 1994 ELO), but I was on the top!

Thanks GM Smirnov. Your courses will help anybody who has work habit, and good work organization.

  9. I would like to make a further note here.

I am shearching about 2 years to understand how to move my pawns in my chess game. All the books and educational materials give informations about the same pawn chainges. Isolate pawns, hanging pawns, double pawns etc. By the way, the most of these educational materials, speacks for the negative elemends of these pawns. But this is not objectivly! I have a friend that almot in any game (Black or white) take g:f3 open the g line, bring the rooks there and attack the castle! Ok, it is not always working but i like the attack and i like to see his games! 🙂
Also i am agry because i can find analysis for the most of pawn chainges that happend from 1.d4 openings, but not in 1.e4. Why? 1.e4 is zooloo opening and 1.d4 is strategick opening? No. Probably the authors don’t care of them dn’t knows much about 1.e4…
I am very happy that i spend around 1 hour and i learn how to use my pawns and my bishops (!!!), the two most importan strategick elements in chess. And now i am sure that my oponents will pain a lot in the chess board! 🙂

  10. ok.ill get the course and i hope to improve my rating from 1200 to 1500-1600.do you think this sounds too optimistic?

  11. Its very good to be apostional player. I enjoy going through the course. Its very good, I am 1999 uscf and I can easily reach much above in next tournament. I am very keen to take up.

  12. Hi Igor! I bought the new course the last monday, I will start study it on the weekend since I have to work all entire day during the week.
Please let me know if I am in the lucky list.. Many thanks from Argentina!
Let me give you a recommendation, you should translate all your courses to the spanish languages. There a lot of chess player in spain and all latin america!
I hope to continue with my progress in chess. The last week I won the 1st premium of a 3rd categorie tournament with players around 1750 elo, just using your explanations of piece´s activity in the GM secrets course.
    Have a nice day!

  13. I have not bought any of GM Smirnov’s courses, but I doubt he recommends just memorizing opening lines. You need to understand the why of the position to utilize it. You need to understand the why of the moves, so you are fine, when your opponent diverges.

I have played tournament chess for over a year (rating 1900), and I have yet to get beyond move 10 on my opening lines before my opponent diverges out of my book.

Earliest divergence on white move 3, I was black: 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Bd3. This has happened twice, and I have some ideas, but no real line for this yet.

    Latest divergence on white ninth move, I was black, white is US national master 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 O-O 6.Be2 e5 7.O-O Na6 8.Re1 c6 9.a3 (new to me) Qe7 10. Bf1 (new to database).

    1. I do not claim that opening is only memorizing lines but part of it is memorizing lines and I think that good opening course should include good lines to remember(smirnov give lines but he did not recommend memorizing them and I found that part of the lines are not good). I do not feel that playing training games is the right way to learn openings and I prefer thinking about the lines that I need to remember again and again when I need to remember not only the lines but also the plans and the problem is that I have no good list of lines.

  14. why is this course double the price of others? i see courses at 53,57,69 USD.is this course longer or more important? please answer.

  15. there is no clear explanation in how to buy your product by western union? since you didn’t mention the name and address of you in your sample because the western union teller are asking the name and address of receiver…

  16. You are simply wrong about my level.
You cannot get fide rating near 2000 with no idea about chess.

I am clearly better than most of the people who play in tournaments.

    for your question

1)I think that I am in the same level in the last 6 years.
2)It is very easy for me to win with king and queen against king
It is simple knowledge about endgame that every tournament player knows.
    3)You are wrong
I said sacrificed and not blundered and it means that the opponent had an attack for the material but I could find good defensive moves and his attack was over.
4)I did not complain that the opening labartory has not the last word of theory.

I have no problem with getting equal position with white in the worst case and getting slightly inferior position with black in the worst case(last word of theory means getting at least a minimal advantage with white in all the lines that you learn).

You are wrong that I do not know what is attack and defence and of course I ask myself what my opponent threats when the opponent play a move(I do not know why do you think that I am a complete patzer)

    1. I think he thinks you are a complete patzer because he’s pretty new to chess himself 🙂 No offense Aggelos, we have all been there…but I think Uri’s question is “out of your league”, so to say… What you’ve told him is all well and good (developing your pieces in the opening, etc.), but doesn’t really answer the question or help (especially the “funny” question about Q+K vs. K you’ve asked – that’s kindergarten stuff for someone near 2000 FIDE, and so is asking oneself what the opponent threatens with his last move)…

Uri, what I personally try to get out of GM Smirnov’s courses is what he’s saying about training, all the “systematic” things…for the opening course, I didn’t really look at the lines he gives. This was partly because I have my own repertoire that I’m familiar and satisfied with and partly because I don’t believe some GM has “the secret opening repertoire” that would get me free points (ok Garry K., let me consider your offer a little, but just because we’re friends ;-D )

But for getting familiar with a new line, new opening even, or for preparation I think that what Igor S. is teaching in the video lessons is simply gold. Concise, clearly presented and very practical advice (and using the Chessbase, so finally I know how the GM’s use that damn thing to good effect 🙂 ). Sometimes it can be too simple for me (2122 FIDE rated), but on the other hand I’ve had my fair share of “aha” moments, too.

  17. Aggelos, your enthusiasm towards GM Igor’s courses is most welcome. You must study his courses and make maximum progress in chess. But, I think you are a bit rude in replying to Uri Blass who is author of a chess engine “Movei’ and ICCF GM norm holder as well (Correspondence chess GM). His FIDE rating is also good around 2000. GM Igor’s courses are focusing on tournament chess play and may be a bit on correspondence chess. But if Uri wants to use these courses for improving his chess engine’s opening book or in winning computer/ freestyle/ advanced chess tournaments then these courses can help in improving overall understanding but GM Igor will have to develop a new course for computer/ freestyle/advanced chess players. Though the course “Self Taught GM” comes up with a database of around one lakh (100000) highest level computer chess games which can benefit Uri Blass too.

  18. I am interested mainly in tournament play for fide rating(It is correct that I am a correspondence chess GM but these games are based mainly on computer analysis and I did not ask about opening repertoire for correspondence chess)

There are weaker chess players than me(OTB) who are correspondence GM’s.

    1. My rating is only near 2000 also because I sometimes fail to beat weaker players.

Here is one game when I used the wrong smirnov’s opening that I play to stop using and I failed to beat a 60 years old player who has hardly fide rating above 1800 inspite of having a clear advantage on the clock when he played f4

Note that I believe that 3…Bg4 is a mistake because white
get an advantage with 4.f3 Bf5 5.g4(a move that smirnov does not mention)
There is nothing better for black in moves 12-14 based on computer analysis.
Rde8 is not the best move(and only third best) but I believe that most players at my level could not find the right move.

Later I probably traded too many pieces but the reason was that I did not like the pressure of white on the f file.

Analysis by computer shows no tactical mistakes in this game.

I am not sure if I should try e4 c5 that smirnov suggest or go to a different opening.

  19. I don’t care if I’m in the ‘lucky list’ or not. I have purchased the new course and have found it quite interesting. Generally speaking, all the courses by GM Smirnov are good and can tell you quite a bit about the game of chess. However, I don’t think GM Opening Laboratory, especially, its practical part are good for playing against strong opposition (FM and above). Some lines, i.e. for White, are too meak to use against IMs when you check them with Houdini, but might be good for amateurs. So keep that in mind. As to the repertoir for Black it’s quite good if you’re an attacker like me but you have to check it with a computer if you don’t want surprises. With White I prefer sticking to my proven 1. d4 repertoire.

  20. It would be nice if you could stop using differnet voices in the courses. It just sound idiotic as you’re not an actor and the effect is rather poor…

  21. I own all the courses i have not improve at all. When i used your positional principles with the engine the move is not even listed. Or when i used it against stronger opponent i lost faster than i was doing before. I am now beginning to regret all the money that i spent. Either your course is met to be a course to get money or you have not goes in enough details or A player rated 1894 like me is not understanding nothing. In any case i have just make lost in money and time. Another problem is when you go to the support zone you ask a questions it says to you go to the FAQ and is never answered which prove that no one on this site is really caring whether the player is having problems or not. Why i am writing this is to get real help from Mr Igor Smirnov itself to enlightened me about these problems.

    1. To Rigen, I had same or similar problems with this organization, they wont even answer me nor refund money. Nor do they post comments they dont like.Currently I cant even use the course as it is “locked out”. What a joke.

  22. My experience is exactly the opposite. I too own all of Igor’s courses. I was a 1300 player for 10 years making all the typical mistakes, like memorizing opening lines and switching from one repertoire to another.
After going through the GM Secrets and briefly looking at the Openings Laboratory, I jumped to 1600 within six months. I crushed an 1800 player on the White side of a Sicilian Najdorf and I was already out of book by move 6. All I could remember was Bg5, f4, Qf3 and 0-0-0. After that I was on my own and tried to follow the principles. My opponent finally resigned in disgust when his position became hopeless. Last week I beat a 1850 player and drew against a 2000 player even though I totally misplayed the opening. A positional sacrifice (Rook for a Knight) is what saved me.
I have watched some of Igor’s videos 5-6 times and will continue to watch them until it becomes automatic. I am also doing ALL of the exercises. Believe me, it works!

    1. I agree, sure you can buy all his courses but you need practice all the ideas of the course till you automatic it 🙂

Igor Smirnov courses are the best! and it really works here!!

ps really noting before have help me to play much stronger!
