The Ruy Lopez (also known as the Spanish Opening or Spanish Game) is one of the most prevalent chess openings, played in over 100 million games. In the following video lesson, I will share an evil trap that promises a winning position for Black in just about five moves.

The Ruy Lopez occurs after the opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5. The trap occurs in the Mortimer Variation of the Berlin Defense which occurs after 3…Nf6 4.d3 Ne7.
