Magnus Carlsen is from Norway and he was born on 30 November 1990. The “chess prodigy” earned his grandmaster title at the age of 13 years, in 2004. Apart from that, he is the current World Chess Champion.
Carlsen’s life is full of great achievements. He surpassed the rating of 2800 in the year 2009 and became the number one player in the FIDE rankings in 2010, also becoming the youngest person ever to achieve those feats.

Carlsen has developed a universal playing style. He knows how to attack, defend, he uses a variety of openings; thus it is very difficult for his opponents to prepare and play against him.
He became the World Champion in 2013 by defeating Viswanathan Anand. The following year, he retained his title against Anand, won the 2014 World Rapid Championship and World Blitz Championship, and reached a peak rating of 2882, the highest in history. In 2016, he successfully defended his title against Sergey Karjakin.
Now let’s take a look into Magnus’s personal life.
Magnus as a model
Carlsen modelled for G-Star Raw’s Autumn/Winter 2010 advertising campaign along with American actress Liv Tyler. In November 2013 he was selected as one of the “sexiest men of 2013” by Cosmopolitan.

Magnus as an actor
Carlsen declined a role in the movie Star Trek “Into Darkness”. Unfortunately, he was unable to get a work permit in time for shooting. Perhaps we may see him in another film to participate as “a chess player from the future”.
In 2017, he made a special guest appearance on The Simpsons, in an episode where Homer’s chess super powers are revealed.
In 2012 he had a full-time manager; Espen Agdestein. His work consisted of finding sponsors and negotiating media contracts. Carlsen earned US $1.2 million in 2012, from sponsorships.
